AIPA NEWS: SEPTEMBER 2007
It’s been another busy month for the AIPA executive. Headspace preparations are heating up, while Aaron K and the copyright committee have been preparing another submission on the commissioning rule for the Ministry of Economic Development.
By the time this goes to press the 2007 Headspace exhibition will be just around the corner. Headspace is an opportunity for our members to showcase what really excites them about photography as an art form - rather than just a saleable commodity. As a commercial photographer working in the advertising industry I am constantly using my skills to communicate and enhance an idea my client initially came up with. I enjoy the creative challenge that commercial assignments provide, however I feel completely free when I am shooting for myself. No money is exchanged, and there is no pressure to please someone other than myself. Best of all there are no time constraints. I believe it is during these private moments of photography that the true photographer within is born. Of course a photographer’s “Headspace” is always changing depending on what he or she is immersed in at the time. I am currently going back to landscape photography as a passion and am also re-looking at an avant-garde fashion project which I have been doing on and off for my whole career. It will be one of these outlets that I will showcase at Headspace.
As I write this we currently have 46 AIPA members from all around the country committed to exhibiting, and we hope to reach our maximum number of 60 by the time this is printed. All of these photographers can look forward to an exceptional event that is being supported by a large assortment of sponsors. These include 26000 Vodka, Man of War Wines, Epic Beer, George FM, CR Kennedy, Jenrite, Photo New Zealand, Colour Management, The Pond, The PR Shop, Geon Print, Waiwera Water, CG Rothsbury, APN Outdoor, Signs by Designcraft, and Clendons.
So keep your eyes peeled for our billboards around Auckland and keep listening to George FM for further details. The exhibition will be open to the public from the 5 th to the 12 th of October at the Alinghi Base, Viaduct Harbour in Auckland.
