2008 SONY / AIPA STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP WINNER | by Rebekah Robinson
Unitec student Rebekah Robinson was the winner of the 2008 Sony / AIPA Student Scholarship. Her winning portfolio (seen below) consists of a series of seven well considered and beautifully captured images that cleverly reveal aspects of care given to domestic pets.
At first glance one would assume that these spaces are for the treatment of people, but closer inspection of some of the images reveals the true nature of the site's purpose - animal welfare. However other locations give nothing away (e.g. the surgical suite and crematorium), for these spaces are identical to the ones that deal with humans.
The absence of humans or animals in the photos creates a sense ambiguity - leaving the viewer to ponder the purpose of the space.
